Removing primer grit from fired 22 and 22mag cases

What do you guys do to reduce or eliminate primer grit. I clean my cases in hot soapy water with some citric acid added. Even with that ,there is still primer grit inside the rim of the case. So far I have had to live with it. I sure would like to get it all though. That grit is a scource of abrasion to dies.

I found that using hot soapy water in a rock tumbler works to remove the grit just pour them out on a screen and turn them until all the water pours out of the cases. Do not pour all the water out of the tumbler the bottom is filled with that grit.

I run them thru my ultra-sonic cleanner using hot water and dish soap.
That removes almost all the grit from the primers.

I use simple green in my untrasonic. does a good job.

soak over night in pure simple green and rinse and you are good to go

There is no possibility that the steel media get stucked in the ring, scratching the deriming die?

Out of several thousand derimmed, I've had 2 pieces stick inside the case that I didn't notice. Neither damaged my dies.

SS media. That stuff is awesome. I've been using it for a year now and I will never go back to traditional media. This works great with the 22LR brass. You just have rumble them a little longer to get the brass shinny. 6 hours is enough to clean the residue in the case, just not enough to to get the brass as shinny as regular brass. Works really well.

Uh yeah! If you are referring to the SS media? SS media and tumbler are not in everyone's budget to get set up. I know I do not have the cash laying around.

while I can afford SS media I fail to see how its going to get grit out of the rim of a rim fire case. I know its a good media but it cant get in the rim to clean out the crud I fail to see it as a solution. I have had very good luck boiling mine in dish washing soap and about an 1/8 cup of vinegar. as others have said dont just dump them out of the pain as you will be dumping the grit out with them. as they are boiling i take a slotted spoon and dip them out rinse them in clear water and allow them to dry. If your in a big hurry put them on a cookie sheet in the oven on warm for an hour or so

Place them into washing machine as an ordinary brass ;-)

The ultrasonic cleaners work fantastic. I use either citranox or lemishine they seem to work equally well and the inside is spotless.

The stainless Steel pins come in a five pound bag at Midway.... How many bags do you need to make the tumbler work. Is one bag enough in the Thumbler Tumbler?
