The 5906 is a very good pistol. They have been used for police duty and competition. It is out of production primarily because of the cost to produce it and the wave of plastic guns which have taken its place.

I had the alloy version, 6906, and it was a superb pistol as is all 3rd Generation S&W pistols.

The used 5906 is one of the best deals going these days IMHO, they are stainless and built like a tank, it will outlive your great grand kids, a little heavy for concealed carry though......a really good deal would be $275 on the low end, the high end right now would probably be $350....

I've owned several 6906s and a 6904. All good shooters with cast loads. I would pick it up if the price is right.

I'd buy one in a heart beat--for reasons not clear to me, the 3rd Generation Smith's seem to have gotten very little love from the firearms press, but in my view, they are at the top of the heap if you want a "wonder-nine." I really like my old 39-2, and the later guns were even better.
