I just got 50 lbs. of lead from a salvage yard, he said it came from car radiators, How much tin do think is in it? it is hard and you cannot mark it with your finger nail very easy.

I'd love to hear how much you paid per lb - you might have hit the jackpot if he sold it to you at lead prices :)

Not lead per se, it's solder. I'm curious also how much you paid for it?

ya did great !!!!!!!!!!! like most have stated it's solder , original composition should of been 60/40 but may of changed and it was melted at least twice ( once when it was made and again when smelted out ) let me change that to " you did really great " !!! a couple pounds of it should sweeten up 50-100 pounds of ww's nicely

Just re-sell the solder you got for $7 a pound and then you can get thousands of pounds of lead with that money. Well, not thousands, but maybe hundreds of pounds.

You definitely scored there. Make sure you keep going back for more as long as you can.

I've got a local guy with a radiator shop that sold me a bucket full for $20 that netted 22lbs in ingots after melting. He even gave me a ladle and a bar mold too since he doesn't re claim his own any more. Probably won't be around much longer though, soldering radiators is a dying business and there is hardly ever any cars at his place.

Most car radiators any more are about half plastic, tough to solder. :veryconfu

Plastic caps and aluminum cores glued together. He said about all he works on any more are big truck and farm equipment radiators and those are few and far between.
