When did SW go with the transfer bar style safety on there revolvers?

These do not have a transfer bar. There is a hammer block, and that was introduced
about WW2 but the actual detail design of how it worked changed in the 50s or so.

Was just looking at some youtube vidios of the newer 629s its look like the firing pin is not on the hammer like the 629 I have, that I bought in the late 80's

OK, but that is not a transfer bar, just a frame mounted firing pin. I'm not exactly sure
when they made that change, probably about early 90s. I have several, all are frame
mounted.
