I'm giving up on my Bersa 380 with cast bullets. Pistol got a .358 barrel that is a hell bent on not wanting to shoot cast. Shoots J-bullets just fine, but that wont work for me. Thinking about Taurus PT-58, full size 380, any of you guys have experience with that pistol? Also wont mind hearing what other full size 380 might be a good cast boolit shooter.

I had a Beretta 84 that is basicly the same gun as the Taurus and i gave it up for a surplus CZ 83. The CZ has better trigger pulls both single and double action, has ambi controls and can be carried cocked and locked if you prefer. In addition the CZ shoots better groups at half the money.

If you are not stuck on 380 caliber the CZ82 in 9MM Makarov is a dandy gun and even though it has poly rifling it will still shoot hard cast bullets with good accuracy. In additon the Mak caliber has just a little more oomph than the 380 especially in the CZ.

The only other 380 I have had lately was a PK 380 Walther and the grips were a tad small for me.

KCSO that looks like a great little pistol, a lot cheaper then taurus. How did the cz shoot with cast? What kind of boolits did you shoot in it and what was the barrel diameter?

OK, since you asked,

I prefer the Taurus 738.

I have one for my wife and she loves it. Excellent D/A trigger, very light, feeds
anything I can put in the magazine and its accurate for its size.

Does not get much better.

No I'm looking for a full size 380, I have LCP and it loves shooting cast.

I'm with KCSO and the CZ 83. The surplus 83 I picked up a year or so ago is a real good shooter. Even with my tired eyes all loads tried so far, cast and jacketed, shoot into 2" or less at 50'. Unlike the smaller blowback 380s it is pleasant to shoot also.

The 83 has standard US bore diameter specs are 355 and mine is 356 on the nose. I shoot 100 grain rn cast and it is MORE accurate than the $600 gun it replaced. Mine came from SOG and was hand picked and cost ??? $280.

The surplus 82's are cheaper yet and are the best Makarov chambered pistol you can buy IMHO.

My 83 was hand picked at SOG also. An FFL buddy, who shops there regularly, picked it up there for me. I was so pleased with its performance I had my gunsmith friend refinish it. With its freshly polished flats and matted rounds it now looks as good as it shoots.
