I am thinking about using my 35 Rem. Contender to deer hunt with, and want to use cast.
I have 2 possible molds to chose from. One is the RCBS 200 grain, the other is a Lyman 170 grain SWC. The SWC has the bigger meplat, obviously the RCBS 200 has more bullet weight.
I am thinking 1500 FPS or so in my Contender.
I would go with the RCBS 35-200-GC. I've killed hogs with that bullet and like it very much. You should be able to get considerably more than 1500 fps with bullet from your Contender. I routinely shoot that bullet at 2100 fps from my Marlin levergun (with excellent accuracy), and I bet you could get 1850-1900 with no problem from a Contender.

The one you feel most relaxed with. Both will kill a deer no problem. ... felix

2000 fps and the RCBS is not a problem, and in the old frame design as well. The G2, of course, would be amply strong for such velocities.
You'd essentially be duplicating 200 grain 35 Remington factory loads fired from a rifle, and there's nothing wrong with that. At such velocities, there is no need to rely on meplat alone to kill, as the cast bullet of ACWW's will expand very well at normal to longish woods ranges.
