Finally got around to casting a little more than a thousand bullets from wheel weights using my Lee 20 lb bottom-pour casting pot and my Lee TL .452-200 SWC 6-cavity bullet mold. Lubed them with Lee Alox.

I'm a fan of Lee Precision and they make fine products. Next step, hand-loading on my Lee Turret press with my Lee deluxe 45 ACP carbide dies :bigsmyl2:

Form-up soldiers!

And, everyone is in formation. A full battalion's worth

OK, Now the leadership is in place! Always waiting on the officers...

I hear ya! Looked so purty I had to make a few of my own. Mine are the traditional lube style but still a fine boolit for my purposes.

I dont love Lee i dont hate them either.

I am on the other hand dirt poor so buying/using Lee lets me shoot more.

I hate the fact that they refuse to make a tumbler, that they discontinued the round handheld primer.
I love their pricing on diesets and the factory crimper, cheap but more often than not good moulds.

So what i save on equipment i can spend on primers and powder. Easy deal for me.

Hey, if you can't have fun doing this, why bother! Now send those little soldiers on their deployment!

I don't "love" Lee products (except for the Classic Turret!), but most of their stuff is useful and cheap, two things that are more important to me than "best" much of the time. Cheap tools require care and attention to use successfully, and they are not for the ham-handed or careless. Sometimes I need the "best" and that's what I buy, regardless of color.

I'm afraid these 'men' are on a one-way deployment. :)

That's exactly what I do, too. The destination is my boolit traps. Once they've "done their duty" they are sifted out, sent for a little R&R and made shiny new again, ready for another task. Some are casualties, of course, doing noble duty as hunting and varmint control, many of those are MIA, but will always be remembered.

The only thing I've had trouble with as far as Lee stuff; my 45 ACP flaring die won't open the mouth of the case enough for lead bullets. Works fine with jacketed though...

I don't use alox very often but looking at a couple of the pictures here I don't think I'm using enough when I do use it. How many coats do you have on those bullets Roundrunner?

There were about 100 casualties today. The good news is that they hit their targets :)

Now to clean the .45

Lee gets some things right but their QC is sooooo poor, way too much hit & miss.

Love the cast iron press's, Use lots of the reloading dies (80% of my dies are Lee)
Have lots of the case trimmers (some are short of spec) - looking for a better trimming system.
I tend to avoid the molds, but I have a few. I'll always go for a nice NOE or Mihec mold every time if it is available in the style I want. Lee make some great tools but some of them are very ordinary.

Actually have a LEE mold in 45-230gr 6 banger, that throws an excellent boolit. Throws it consistently at .453
This is the 1st Lee mold I've got thats actually worth looking at or using for something other than a paper weight.

The ones that are very light are the mix talked about on the lube section. 45-45-10 for my use.

The darker ones are just pure Lee Alox put on a bit thick for a friend, I don’t like them gooie. He loads them then wipes off the tips. I don't have the patients for that.

Those are spent primers in the plastic bottle are they not? Live ones would be a bomb waiting to go off stored like that.

It is strange that a company that does so many Pb molds only makes expander dies suited to FL GC's. I got around this limitation by making my own PTX units that mimic the "M"-die for my boolits. My .45's are .452 after lube sizing and are cast in modified Lee 6-banger molds. No leading in my Colt 1911's.

Great idea. Do you have pics of your modified die?
