I bought a Ruger Single Six in 22LR/mag. The barrels is 4 5/8". I could not find this barrel length on Ruger's site and the only one I found on GunsAmerica was listed as a '1 of 1000' model. From what I've gathered so far, it was a special run that some distributor approached Ruger about. Anybody know anything about this model?

The shorter barrel guns used to be a standard length..4 5/8" 5 1/2" 6 1/2" and 9 or 9 1/2"

About 90% of the guns you see are 5.5" barrels old model or new model. The other barrel lengths are out there although I cannot say if Ruger still offers all the barrel lengths they used to.

I would speculate that the pictured gun is just a factory stock gun with aftermarket grips.

Found it. Ruger's serial number records show it was made in '74.

It could be a special. IIRC the stainless models were available in 5 1/2 and 6 1/2 lengths only at one time.

It's not a Lipsey's, which were made in 1975, with prefix Serial # of 264-XXXXX. As you say it was made in '74 and about 1700 were made. It shouldn't have either the warning rollmark or a Liberty rollmark on the barrel, and both cylinders should be "slotted" with a firing pin groove and both fluted. If it had the 64 prefix to the serial # instead of the 63, it would be a different beast, as only about 300 were made and it's considered rare by collectors. Nice little piece though.
