I have owned this this for more years then I can remember, I think it started life as a US Military 45 based on serial number 124**** somewhere along the line somebody tried a up grade installed S&W revolver sights, then they tried their hand engraving on the slide, even says 45-Combat with the Ithaca company logo, followed by a blue job. It does have a Colt series 70 barrel & bushing. As a shooter it more then holds its own and will feed everything you feed it.
But in the long run whomever did the work should have left it stock from what i see of those prices.

Tom,

Those prices weren't always there. When I got into 45s you could buy Ithaca's by the truck load for $25. Or most any 1911, for that matter.

My first was a 1911 with a 17,000 serial number. Many would throw up to see what had been done to it. Was a shootin' machine though.

We thought they'd never run out. *sigh*

I have a 1918 mfgd Colt 1911 with an Ultra Dot riding the slide. It's an accurized wad gun I've had for over 30 years that will do a little over 2"@ 50 yds and feed empty cases. IMO guns are made to be shot. The only way I'd own a "collectable" is if someone gave it to me and then I'd probably sell it to buy something to shoot.

As a side note Ithaca is making 1911s again in their new plant Sandusky,Ohio. They had a booth at a trap shoot and I checked one out very nice fit and finish. FB
