Just picked up my M44 today, Its even better than the picture showed. Nice bright bore, not counterbored, matching numbers, I can't get over just how clean it is. Have to drag it out to the range along with the two C&B revolvers I just picked up.

So... Who made it? I have a Polish 44 that shoots j-word bullets just fine. 4 inches to the left at 100 yards with bayonet closed. Dead on at 100 with bayonet extended. Lots of strange looks at the range. Working up a boolit load for it. Just shooting 312 swc pistol boolits thru it now. Lots of fun and no recoil.

Tom that is a nice looking rifle you have there. Last week I was at the local gun shop and happened on a fairly nice M44. I am a little perplexed because the stock on mine is pretty rough, while the metal everywhere is good. The steel butt plate has the matching number on it as well as the bolt. I am just now working up a load for it. I fired a few 311466 with 11 gr Unique. It shot about 12" to the right at 50 yds. (No bayonet on it). I tapped the front sight to the right some and loaded some more at 12 gr. I also loaded some 31141 to see what they will do at the same 12 gr load. I have sized these at .311. I don't have but I want to get a .314 die for my Lyman 450. I am enjoying mine and I know you will too.

Still on the look out for one of those. I have moulds suitable and range pick up once fired brass waiting.

Hey I got around the bayonette thing by geting me an M-38! NO mounted bayonette! LOL But with the short light (relative to the full sized rifles) if you shoot full up loads you gonna want a pad of some kind after several shots. My M-38 now wears a nice muzzlebreak. I'm thinking about changing out the stock for a modern one for more shootability.

I once owned a very nice condition Izhevsk M44. It was a neat little gun, but I hated to shoot it! The recoil with milsurp ammo was just brutal, and I am not particularly recoil sensitive. After firing maybe 5 rounds, I would have 'gun headache,' and a bruised shoulder. I sold it for more than I paid for it, and never looked back. Until recently.

Now I wonder how that gun would have been to shoot with reduced power cast boolit loads, along with a slip-on recoil pad. So, I bought an M 1891/30 full length rifle, and never looked back! The stock on the M44 (and 91/30) is way too short for me, but a slip-on pad helps tremendously. I also learned not to shoot Heavy Ball ammo through a carbine!

Great looking gun. Nice wood. If you can find Polish 7.62x54 milsurp ammo, try some. You won't believe the muzzle flash. I'm using Larry Gibson pistol boolit loads in mine. No recoil, good for kids. Nice find.

...The recoil with milsurp ammo was just brutal,...

Odds on you bought milsurp heavy ball. It is renoun for such. The cure is a cinder block dangled on the bayonet......so I am told.

I have a bunch of cast Boolits loaded up, but the mil-surplus I have is the 147 gr Yugo, the non steel core stuff. The cast stuff is loaded mild.
