Hi guys. I have a Marlin 1894 44 mag no safety and would like to know the year of manufacture. Does anyone know how to do this? Serial #2307xxx. Any help would be appreciated. Rod

MARLIN SERIAL NUMBER IS 100 minus the prefix: 100 - 23 = 1977.

I've had a couple of them...loaned them to non shooter friends to go deer hunting and got a check instead of my rifle back. Only same caliber model I like better is the octagon barrel Cowboy Rifle...24 inch length please....and it will run $700-to-$1000 pretty quick.

PS Don't post the complete serial number of any gun.

EDK, thanks for the information. I bought the rifle at a gun show for $100.00 and it's probably 90%+. [10 years ago] It shoots way better than me with 240 gr. swcgc and AA#9 to push it. It does hurt the shoulder so I haven"t shot it lately. Thanks again. Rod Deleted portion of ser. #.

On ANY used non collector guns, I go to gunbroker for pricing. There are some sellers that are overly optimistic, but for the most part prices reflect what you'll pay IF you can find one locally. I'm always looking for Original Size RUGER VAQUEROS and MARLIN Cowboy rifles in 357 or 44, so I check the various internet auctions every day or so. I've got some SMOKIN' DEALS....and missed some too.

Prefix subtracted from 2000 will give you the year, except prefixes 69 70 and 71 which were the actual year of manufacture ;)
