I'm going to cast some bullets for the new 45 70 barrel on my Handi Rifle. I've cast for years and use the number two alloy in most of my shooting. How ever my Black Powder friends say to use soft pure lead in this type of rifle. The mold I have is a Saeco plain base 360 grain I plain on using a fairly mild load mostly for shooting steel plates and plinking. How would you mix the alloy for this ? Thanks Mike

For plinking and steel plates plain ole wheel weights should work just fine. If looking for the most accuracy you may have to go to a lead tin mix (prolly 20-1 or there abouts). I am no expert by any means and I am sure that some one with more experience will chime in soon.

Mike, I use Lyman #2 in my H&R (NEF) .45-70 and Buffalo Classic. It works just fine at .459-.460" with liquid alox.
