Where do you get the ALOX that goes in the Recluse lube, 45/45/10?

I've got the johnsons, the mineral oil and a couple blue crayons mixed, but I'm not sure about the alox part. Link?

Thanks.

Recluse 45/45/10 uses Lee Liquid Alox and it is available at most reloading supply places like Midway.

You can also get a better price and a little thicker product from our own White Label Lube.

XLOX best value on the market

Yes, the liquid stuff is what you want to make Recluse 45/45/10 tumble lube.

If you want to make NRA 50/50 that would be used in a lubrisizer then you want the Alox 350 in the paint can from White Lable.

Alox = Xlox, Lubrizol would not let White Lable use the Alox name but thats who he buys it from.

BAC= Bee'swax, Alox, Carnuba

But if you are looking for the original Alox 2138 lube, try Alan in Vermont down in the classified ads (Swappin' & Sellin'). I bought some of his lube, it's a bit better than some of the old 50/50 I've had.

Im running BAC in the .40 now

Thanks. Im just trying to make the recluse stuff.

The JPW with the mneral oil is an odd pasty substance, wouldnt the liquid alox just make it too thin and runny? I thought 45/45/10 was a pan lube.

I think you have mistakenly used mineral oil instead of mineral spirits.

45% liquid alox
45% Johnson's Past Wax
10% mineral spirits

Recluse 45/45/10 is a tumble lube, not a pan lube

Mineral oil in Recluses formula would make for a mess.

Is is a good lube for most pistol applications. Never have used it for rifle, yet. Can't beat it for speed and ease.

Much confusion here.

Recluse lube (45/45/10) is a liquid tumble lube formula, not a pan lube or anything intended to fill the grooves. It's a film lube that uses liquid Alox, JPW, and mineral SPIRITS (not oil) to adjust the viscosity for getting the correct thickness of coating.

Liquid Alox sold by Lee and White Label lubes is one of the ingredients. Lee push-through sizers all come with a 4-ounce bottle of the stuff, and you'll want to get a Lee sizer to speed up the sizing operation or you kind of defeat the purpose of the speed and ease of lubing/sizing the boolits with this method.

For the full story on 45/45/10, check out Recluse's sticky at the top of this sub- forum.

Thanks. I've tried the LLA, but it screwes with my asthma. I'll stick with the BAC, if it aint broke... I might try to add carnauba red to a 50/50 mix like yours.

BAC is a mix of Carnuba Red and 50/50.

If asthma bothers you, you might want to be very careful about cooking up some 45/45/10 lube--especially indoors--as the fumes DO get pretty strong. I can easily see them bothering you if your asthma is flaring up or giving you trouble.

The BAC is really good stuff, and so is the Carnauba Red. Runfiverun mixes a couple of Glen's lubes together, but I can't remember right off hand which ones he does.

while i dont have asthma i detest the smell of alox - even the LLA , if made according to recluse's recipe it's not only honestly drying it is also far far less umm odoriferous and in my humble opinion a bit better lube and well worth the effort to make it ( besides it lets me use up the bottles of LLA i got with my sizing dies )

I made the mistake of cooking a batch of Black Powder lube in the house. SWMBO made it perfectly clear that any such undertaking in the future would occur outdoors. And that was just Emmert's, which generally smells pretty good. I think cooking your mix would come close to ending the 44 year marriage.

Let me get this strait. You have asthma. Are you against using 45/45/10 or making it? If your hangup is the making of the stuff then I would offer to make some for you and ship it to you. If your big hangup is the using of the stuff, I would say that you should do a lot of casting this time of year and let your boolits dry outside with 45/45/10 during the warmer months. 45/45/10 is a staple at my bench now. Matter of fact I just got done lubing 690 45 boolits. Only took 15 minutes, 4 feet of wax paper, and 20 drops of the lube.
All of my boolits get 45/45/10. If they are going less than 1400fps then thats all they get, 1400-1800 they get a gas check, above 1800 they get a gas check and FWFL (another indispensable nicety) That's my system and so far it seems to be working.
Let me know if you need some 45/45/10, I'm down to one bottle and its about time to whip up another batch.
