Insulate 4-20

I received a Lee 4-20 for Christmas. I am in the process of installing a PID. I have some sheet asbestos( don't ask, I promise not to breathe any dust). My question is; Would it be advantageous to use some of that to wrap the pot, attempting to reduce the heat loss to the environment?

There was a recent thread about insulating a Lee pot to keep the temperature consistent as the level of lead changes in the pot. For that reason alone, I think insulating the pot is worth the effort.

Wrapped mine in Ceramic Wool we use to insulate our lead pots and feed lines at work.

As long as you are aware that breathing microscopic asbestos fibers can lead to serious lung disease, I'm sure you will find that it is an excellent high temperature insulation.

That ceramic wool is a great heat insulator. I wrapped my Klose bbq pit with it, and it hardly uses any wood even when it's below zero outside. FWIW, I got mine from McMaster Carr, but minimum order is a 10' roll in any thickness.

Man you have some major lead there. Where can i get some of that wool?

I dont know where they get it but the piece I used was a scrap piece I saved from the dumpster at work. Used fiberglass high temp tape to hold it on.

PLEASE, DO NOT USE ASBESTSOS!!! PLEASE DON'T!!! Use fiberglass or kaowool. Fiberglass will work fine because your not melting iron, your melting lead. WHY ASBESTOS? Are you trying to kill yourself from cancer?!?!! Fiberglass will work fine. Go to lowes and buy a roll of fiberflass and use that. THROW THE ASBESTOS AWAY!! Please for your health, use fiberglass or kaowool.
