Hello,

Is $500 too much to pay for a Marlin 336 rebored to .38-55 win

The gun was made in 1973

according to the seller its a sub moa shooter at 100 yds

Im in the market for a 38-55 if anyone has one they want to get rid of.

I see them on Gun Broker for that much and more everytime I go on the sight. I've about given up on finding a real deal on them. As a matter of fact I bought a Rossi last Saturday at Dick's Sporting Goods because everyone was out of stock on the Marlin. Even the distributors did not have them. I would like to see a sub moa shooter in a lever action, in that large a caliber. If it will do it, it would be worth $500 to me. Just my .02 worth, YMMV.

Take the claim for sub moa performance unless you see it being demonstrated. As for the $500, that is the current price for a good Marlin currently, probably less than any alternative for a 38-55 now days. If you could put it off for a while, visit local used gun dealers (pawn shops, gun shops, newspaper ads, estate sales) until you find a better deal.

If you decide to pass on it and it is in the STL Area and you don't mind PM me the number, I would like a shot at it.

Best wishes,

Joe

You did not mention who did the re-bore. But if the work was done correctly and the rifle in good shape yes it is worth it if you wish to have a 38-55.

You can not touch a Marlin 336 Cowboy in 38-55 for anything near that amount.
