Sir Winston Churchill said “Britain and America are two nations divided by a common language.”

Yonky, The above quote from George Bernard Shaw, not Winston Churchill.

Yonky, I like the 2nd quote, but as to the original point, why not get it right the first time?

The point being that Yonky is the source for material...
Beyond ignorant academics of who said what.

Coiled material is the fastest way to produce Gas Checks with either popular tools, or even the home made versions that work as well.

It is the method that works.

I received .015" X .468" Aluminum coil material, and a sample of .017" X 5/8" wide copper from Ian's Slitter Mill in the mail.

The .468 works beautifully in the PM tool.

And the copper punches out great checks in the FreeChex III tool.
I have to clear the tool each punch, but it's still a completed check with each stroke.

But don't take my word for it.... See for yourselves...

Here's an album:

And here's some picks from that album:

Anyway, there's some of my results.
This coiled material is the way to make your checks!

Was told copper was to gooey. FCIII Needs a much much stronger spring to recover. American and British ingenuity period.

tjones,
I've actually done that. Went to my spring jar and found a perfect little spring that was probably double the tension.
But it didn't solve the minor problem. Not with 30 caliber.
Now the 303 caliber was tried first with thicker material and it worked flawlessly, and the checks squished down on the 30 cal bullets just fine.
So there are some tricks and sauces to cooking these ducks. :bigsmyl2:

I run CTL/ Slitter similar to that where I work, wish I could set my slitter blades closer like you have there, any issues with rolled or burred edges with that thinner material.

Tim, slitting the very thin metal is quite specialised and can take a good while to set up.
Too wide a clearance = a burr , too tight =a blunt blade. Plus the blades do need to sharp
Can slit to minimum width of 5/16" on this machine.
What material do you slit?

Your correct the clearance is important same with sharp rolls. We mainly slit galv.steel sometimes alum . But never that thin. Our normal materials range from 24 ga.up through 12 ga. And coils up to 60 inch
