Well I broke down and bought a used Marlin in 35 Rem with a micro groove barrel. A caliber I have wanted but have no experience with except shooting someone else's a time or two.
Anyway, now I need some info. I want to shoot cast boolits only but have heard it can be difficult with mg barrel. Can anyone reccommend a good plinking/hunting mould. Also what powders work well in the 35.

Thanks for any info.

Mine shoots the 200 rcbs flat point gas check mold in to 2 inch or better at a 100 yards. Dont let anyone tell you that micro grove barrels wont shoot cast. Get the size right and the alloy right like you have to for any gun and the marlins will shoot.

Bigscot, I'd sure vote for Lyman's #358315. That's a 200 grain gas check job and it was certainly designed for the .35 Rem. For use in your micro groove barrel, try cast 'em on the hard side and use the gas check too. For powders, I'd sure recommend medium burning powders like #3031 or #4895 rather than the faster burning fuels. Those powders will give you the same top speed as the quicker ones but the bullet's accelloration in the bore won't be quite as fast and that might let the micro grooves grip the bullet better. I have a couple of Marlins in .35 caliber but they have the older rifling. Shoot sharp, Mike

My favorite powder for the .35 is IMR4064 and very good accuracy from 39.0 grains and a 200 grain gas check cast. It likes them sized .360 the best although .359 does nearly as well. I've got the RCBS mold and waiting on the Ranch Dog which looks near perfect.

I've been using the rcbs 200 gr out of wheel weights dropped out of the mould into water. I've sized it to .359" with a gas check, javelena, and under H-4895 with good results. The marlin shoots about as well with this as it does a jacked slug.

My best groups so far are with 3031 and a Magma 200-SWC w/GC at 16BHN (92-6-2 alloy) sized at .358, .359 or.360 doesn't seem to make much difference.

RCBS 200-RF cast of ACWW groups almost as well (2" at 100), and WC846 opens groups about another 10%. These loads are very close to factory ballistics and either boolit will take deer just as well as Rem. or Win. 200RN.

Enjoy
