fixin' to start a 222 cast learning project 44 grn gc rn going to start with unique @ around 1100-1200 fps and go from there. my best load for this rifle w/ jwords is 22.5grn imr 3031 50grn v-max. twist is 1 in 14. old rem 788.

I know a few of you are accomplished 22cal cast shooters so any input is helpful.
uses will be paper, cans, tree rats, and whistlepigs.

At 44 grns RN that would probably be the 225438. Great little boolit in most 22 loads. I get decent results out of my T/C Tender in triple deuce with it although the 225415 gives me the best accuracy now. I have just started to play with the 225107 (37grn)NOE mold that I got last year and it looks promising but haven't got anything to write home about yet.

Only use perfect boolits. No matter how bad you want to accept small defects, don't. My best results have come with harder boolits like Lyman #2 alloy.

If you do not have a neck size die, only minimum size the cases with the full length set. You only need about .002" boolit to case fit.

I would work up a 3031 load that pushes that boolit around 2000fps. Use a tuft of dacron to fill case.

good advice up there^^^^^.
i'd try the load you are using for the jaxketed also.
visually sort.
then weight sort, be critical.
keep the mold hot and go with a good bhn boolit.
i use the rcbs 55 sp in my 12 twist 223 with a 4/6/90 alloy and water drop them.
pushed with 24.5 grs i-4895.

Using pistol primers and pistol powder, circle 6.0g 4756, 8.5g BD/N105, 12 g N110. Most others did not do justice. Separate boolits into piles with ZERO weight variation. Using a bench gun that shot in the high ones during its day 25 years ago. ... felix

Hello, tuckerdog. I have had very good luck in the .222 with Saeco #221, If you can find any Eagan .22 moulds..they will be worth the money. I plan on working with Lyman 225415 when warm weather returns.

I'm using the RCBS 22-55-SPHP and 225415HP in mine with 10.0 grains of WC820. Makes a great starling and blackbird load.

Be ruthless in culling your bullets./beagle

I use a cupcake pan to separate 22 boolits into weight groups of 1/10th grain then bag them with the weight written on the bag. What everyone else says is true, for the utmost in accuracy you have to be anal about 22 boolits.

Thx for the info, have any of you used trail boss for low velocity loads? I would like to use this rifle for squirrel without making jelly out of them. This rifle with the above load is more accurate than any of my 22 rimfires, but at that vel. with those bullets there wouldn't be much left for the dog and I.

I have not used TB in rifle case as yet. should work great. I have used lots of Bullseye, Red Dot, Unique and such. 3 gr Bullseye to start. 4gr Unique and work up/down from there for speed/ accuracy.

For .22 rimfire velocities the gascheck is not needed but won't hurt. I tumble lube then dust with motor mica, talc powder, graphite whichever I have.

So just head shoot. I dont know about what kind of shots you get, but the big reds down here will more often than not offer a good head shot if you are patient. I have used 308 ball surplus to take quite a few when the backdrop was right. Excellent practice for deer season. When I could head shoot a squirrel with my deer rifle and ball ammo out to 70 yards or so, a deer neck was EASY!

My oldest son has used water quenched lino RCBS 55 fp's in his 223 and has killed quite a few tree rats with a head shot. Good practice for him.

a mag primer and a 22 pellet will zap a squirell out to some impressive distances.
