I have a Night Owl express mold in 22 caliber. I was reading somewhere that someone had seasoned theirs before use. How does this work and anything else I might need to know?

NOE sends a note with all of his molds. He recommends heating the mold blocks up to casting temperature, then letting them cool slowly to room temperature. Either in an oven or on a hot plate. A couple of times.

Worth doing for sure but I also find that even doing that the mold really starts to shine after a couple casting sessions. Seems to be the same with any mold, although that could be my getting used to the particular molds habits.

I believe the reason for temp cycling is to set the guide pins in place. I have had problems on Lee 6 cav molds with the guide pins working out. After I started temp cycling a new mold I stopped have loose pin problems.
