A friend loaned me some of his HP molds this week. Had to try them out this morning. Got a little flash on the 358429. Do I need to remove this? Or will the top punch take care of it?http://castboolits.gunloads.com/imagehosting/thum_124314f2d57927b958.jpg (http://castboolits.gunloads.com/vbimghost.php?do=displayimg&imgid=3765)http://castboolits.gunloads.com/imagehosting/thum_124314f2d57a7e43c6.jpg (http://castboolits.gunloads.com/vbimghost.php?do=displayimg&imgid=3766)http://castboolits.gunloads.com/imagehosting/thum_124314f2d57bbeee98.jpg (http://castboolits.gunloads.com/vbimghost.php?do=displayimg&imgid=3767)

Make a "nosepicket" TP by turning a TP from aluminum stock in an electric drill with a 1/8" long "tit" on it that fits the HP cavity. When sizing, the flashing will be swaged/formed into the nose of the bullet.

Over time, the pin has worn and allows the flashing.

Buckshot or one of the other metalsmiths that modifies moulds can make a new pin and eliminate the problem.

That HP design is a great bullet and you'll enjoy shooting them./beagle

Thanks for the info. I have another friend with a lathe. I'll see if he is up to making me a top punch to fit the HP.

I just use a top punch that fits the nose and don't worry about it, although a top punch with a teat on it would be nice whether you had flashing or not.

Very Nice ! :)

I am a big fan of using a ladle to cast HPs in single cavity molds . There is something therapeutic and relaxing about the process !

Jerry,

Many thanks to you and all the other fine members on the forum who have helped my young 15 yr. old friend with his casting and reloading. The boy is very thankful for your generous help.

Thanks again,
Ben
