I just obtained a Winchester Big Bore 94 and am looking for bullet suggestions. NOE has two group buys going, .379 235Gr RF (RD), the other is a .376 220Gr. FN. Would these work well in my Winchester, or...what else would you suggest. I don't have any experience with this caliber. How concerned do I need to be with the nose length so it will feed in my lever action? Thanks

My advice would be to get something heaver. 250gr - 275gr. You have the twist and the horsepower but can always load light.

The accuracy will be (might be) better going heavy with the faster twist.

If Winchester would have made them with a Rifle length barrel (26") I'd still own mine. I have little need or use for a carbine.

I would go with the 376-220, it shoots flat and will down most animals at normal ranges. My Big Bore had a bore that measured right at .375". I've used it on goats and hogs up to 500+ and managed to recover only one boolit from just under the skin on the off side of a hog I shot at 150yds.

I was shooting a Lyman 375296 at 275 grains in my .375 Big Bore and it did quite well. Normally those rifles will accept and shoot .376" bullets quite well unlike the Marlins which require a bigger diameter bullet./beagle

Lyman 375449 is a very common boolit for the 375 Win. Mine shoots it very well...

Ranch Dog has a great bullet for the 375 also, 235 gr with a wide meplat. I bought one over the holidays, I just haven't had a chance to play with it yet.

I have a 98% Big Bore hiding in my safe but these loads look like fun. Poor thing probably hasn't been fired in about 25 yrs. Guess I better sell it before I get too tempted and order another mould from RD.;-)
Hope you CO guys are OK, been reading about the snow.

i use the 375449 also, with the gas check and sized at 379.
it gives all the oomph the cartridge was designed for.
luckily the marlin likes the same load also.
only problem i have with it is the winchester is sighted in for 200 yds now.

Most of the commercial moulds (RCBS, Saeco, Lyman) dont have a crimp groove in the right location for the 375BB, as most were designed for the 38/55 - which by the way will also feed through your BB as the chamber and throats are large.

Having said that all the bullets work well in my 375's by adjusting the OAL. To do this simply crimp in a lube groove or get yourself a Lee FCD to crimp them in place as appropriate.

If you will notice the 379 235Gr RF (RD), has multiple crimp grooves. I have a few different .375's where this will be beneficial. With your rifle the only advantage, if you want to call it that is it's weight is a little heavier. The 376 220Gr. FN should fit in your BB, in fact if I get some time I can check the dimensions on mine and see. But it's really quite easy as Swede gives the crimp to nose measurements.
The 376 220Gr. FN is a 375 copy of the 35 200FN which by the way IS a very accurate bullet design in my 35 Remington rifle. So much in fact I got a copy of that bullet for my 348 WCF. I have time to decide but I just may get one of those for my 375"s, a Ruger #3 and BB along with a wildcat I have in a contender. Decisions Decisions ;-?
