Went shooting today with another member from the forum. He brought along a brand new toy, A Magnum Research BFR in 45-70. When you first look at this gun you think "man what a hand cannon." When he let me shoot it I was pleasently surprised. The gun was actually very mild to shoot with factory loads. I not sure what the load was. It was a lot of fun to shoot, just sorry there was no one else at the range that could have been impressed.

BTW, the noise was rivalling the guy on the rifle range.:awesome:

I haven't had the opportunity to fire one of the magnum research pistols, but my Phelps has always been quite mild and easy to shoot.

Wait until the right loads are used and 1" targets at 100 yards are in danger!
Never will mine leave my sticky fingers.

I just tried the same load I use in my 14'' contender in my BFR. I call that gun an overgrown ***** cat

I remember back in the 1960s some guy was custom building .45-70 revolvers.

Oh, yeaaahhhh? (taunting little kid's voice) Try this on for size....

Years ago my gunsmith bud showed up at my house with his latest gun show purchase, a Martini action single shot pistol, built by those good folks with hand tools in the Khyber Pass.

The workmanship was actually quite good but God knows what steel they used. Then he told me it was chambered for .303 Enfield! Never one to let a challenge pass, I dug up some MKVII surplus and we went out behind my house to try it out. It immediately turned in to a "You first...no YOU first!" type thing and I drew the short straw.

Guys, I'm here to tell you that we weak kneed Americans don't know nuthin' about recoil. That thing almost took off my right ear on the way back and belched out a flame that I swear was four feet long. My bud never did take HIS shot.

I loved it!

In my rush in my first post, I think I came off on the wrong side.

My contender is not the ***** cat. The BFR is. I feel the weight of the gun is the real key here. The BFR is much heavier than my TC.
For the record, AND NOBODY TRY THIS AT HOME I AM OVER MAX, load is LEE 500gr gas check FN pushed by 48grs Varget lit by a CCI BR primer. I actually find the BFR pleasant to shoot.

3006 I don't think I would have taken that shot. I watched a guy shoot a 357-06 and I cried to watch the recoil and flame. He claimed it is no worse than a 45-70 pistol. I said BS, I think I would shoot a 12ga pistol first.
