I picked up a 9mm taper crimp. But it is threaded on top so its really a seating die without the Seating stem. My question is,

Would it work as a Taper crimp by itself? I would like to use is as a taper crimp die as a SEPARATE stage.

Should work just fine.

Most auto-pistol seating dies will seat and taper crimp at the same time. I personally prefer to seat and crimp in separate operations. Less distortion on lead boolits this way. I have had very good luck with Lyman's 4 die set in .45 ACP.

Dillons dies seat and crimp in different steps.

Yes It will work by its self. I have one myself and bought it for the sole purpose of using it by its self so I could seat and crimp in separate operations. My seat and size dies are RCBS Carbide and my taper crimp is a Hornady. Works perfectly. Progressive press users do this all the time.

Hell, I didn't know anybody made a seater that would taper crimp!! I've always done these things separately... Mike

Up till I found this site I didn't know that it was ever done any other way. I have always used Dillon dies. Now I know the difference.
