Well, not in the Guide Gun but I have loaded it in my standard M1895 Marlin .45/70 and it will feed when loaded to an OAL of 2.5".

These were loaded way down and I obtained 2" groups at 100 yards but have not attempted to open the throttle as I already had loads worked up with other bullets that I liked.

One problem that you will encounter is reduced powder space with this long bullet and that's where the tinkering around will be required with the object being to get a satisfactory velocity from a little faster burning powders than the traditional .45/70 favorites for hunting loads such as 3031. Of course, with that weight bullet, you don't need a whole lot of velocity.

After all, it's not a .458 Win Mag. I have a .458 X 2" which is essentially a belted .45/70 or a .450 Marlin and I encountered the same problem with it but the 462560 (and I've HP'd mine) shoots well in it./beagle

Try the 462560 solid in a Number 1 Tropical .458 Win Mag at 1953 FPS which is darn near the velocity for 500 grain factory solids and you'll grow to appreaciate the old .45/70./beagle

1100to 1200 fps should work great for the need I have for it. I know it will have to be seated deep and give up some powder space.

I shot some from my 1895 CB and they shot very well, but the load was a bit much. I had the mold HP'd, and it now weighs 520 grs. out of my 50/50 alloy. I haven't got around to trying them out of the CB, but my brother loves them out of his 1985G. It wasn't hard to hit 1,400 fps., and they shoot very well for him, and feed very smoothly.

Do you know what load he is using?

35.0 grs. of H 4198, seated to 2.550 O.A.L. It has proven safe in his rifle, and doesn't seem hot at all, but has never been pressure tested. If someone wants to run it through Quickload, there is .710" of boolit inside the case, standard LR primers used.

Thanks, I was thinking about starting with 30gr and working up. I am only looking for 1200fps. no need for more.

34 grains was just over 1,300. This is with the 520 gr. HP version. 30 grains will be plenty safe, but I'm betting you will end up around 32 grains. What diameter does your mold cast at? I had to do a little lapping to mine to get it to the .460"+ that fit these 2 guns best.

Waiting for the mould to come in from (nanuk) . My marlin mesured .4575 so I think I should be alright. Was going to size to .459

After casting some from WW and air cooled they came out .4576. I since beagle it to .4585
