hey fellas
what would be considered a light boolit and on the other end a heavy boolit for the
45 acp :cbpour:

I don't play with the light stuff, but my 1911 loves these 276gr Mihecs over Unique. No slouch either a 850fps

I 'd call 185ish light, probably wouldn't try cast lighter than 200, and heavy would be over 230. 230 is standard weight. Lots of folks shoot 255 keef semi wads.

Truthfully, I have shot hundreds of 200 gr SWC for each bullet I have over that weight. At high speed (900-1000 fps) they have better terminal effect than .45 Hardball and at target velocity they offer great accuracy and lighter recoil. Pretty much a win-win.

On the other hand, if I were going deer hunting with a .45 ACP I would use the Keith 454424 over a good dose of Unique and consider that a good match (particularly in my 625's). My NOE 454424 weighs 250 grs. I would normally not pick one of my 1911's for deer hunting, but if I did I would have to give serious thought as to which bullet to use. Since the Keith will feed in my 1911, then I would almost certainly use that. I wouldn't want to shoot a lot of them, tho' as I believe those heavy bullets will beat up an auto with extended use.

like a foo I went and sold my NOE mold that was perfect
for the acp (230 HP or 250 fn)
I thought I was done with 45 cal peestol boolits :2gunsfiring_v1: should have known better
I purchased a 180 gr lyman devastator mold in the interim
guess I should have went heavier

Light would be a 155 SWC and heavy for the 45 ACP would be 255. MY favorite is a 230gr Mountain Mold with a TC and crimp groove for use in my 45 LC.

For many years & 1911s in 45 acp ive have moulds from 170 gr for a light bullet and 200 gr for a med weight bullet, 220 to 230 gr for normal weight bullet and 250 gr for a heavy bullet. I use the 220 & 250 for bowling pin shooting only as they are FN SWC

Your mold will probably be fine. It's long for it's weight because it is a HP. Compared next to a 230 hardball, it is probably the same height and has similar bearing length.

i shoot a 160gr rnfp in my acp's. [and 45 colt too]
a friend sent me some old [h&g mold] wadcutters that are weird looking and weigh 150.
they don't look like they will even fly straight but they are actually accurate.

I bought a used H&G #68 4 cavity mold in the late 80's and since then I standardized on that boolit and haven't loaded anything but the 200 grain boolit for my 45's since then. I guess consider that standard for me.

Have fun with this stuff.
