This is a bottom ring from a pre-1981 Redfield ring set with 5-44 screws. The two screws shown here are tightened down as far as they will go. All eight holes were short-tapped, some more than others. Needless to say, the heads of the original screws were boogered. This might explain why some scopes insist on shooting loose.... It's easy to check by simply hand-turning a screw through the holes. And easy to fix by running the proper tap through the holes.
