I have a nice Leupold pistol scope that has a gloss finish that I'd like to change to a matte black. Is there a safe, inexpensive way to do this that is durable?

I had a buddy sometime ago that was quite fond of painting his firearms. He used masking tape over the openings for the lenses. He just laid a strip over the openings and cut away what wasn't needed to keep the spray paint off the glass. Must have worked as I never saw any paint on the lenses. Frank

The vehicle solvents in aerosol cans can get into places you may think are well covered. Most optics have coatings that can be attacked by them. Thats my biggest concern.

Go to a hobby shop that supports serious modelers. They spray a transparent matte
finish on models after doing all the paint to kill the gloss. Should work fine and cost
under $10, although I haven't bought any in a long time.

Thanks Bill, I'll look for it in my local hobby shop.

Rhino liner. . . .

NOW THAT will work!

of course it may be a bit hard to adjust the crosshairs.
