I have a Lee mold that is designed for the Luger Old Army. This mold is a .456 diameter, 220gr. Mold # 456-220 1 R. What is the Luger Old Army? I assume it is a pistol but don't find it in any books I have.

Thanks

Albert

It is the RUGER Old Army, a percussion revolver.

Why does Lee call it a LUGER Old Army on the box that the mold came in? Dubber123 You are most likely right but the box says Luger Old Army. I just thought it may be some old obsolete round that I never heard of.

That's quite a typo from Lee! I'd hang on to the box as a conversation piece if nothing else!

I have one of those molds in hollowpoint form. As a matter of fact I was just cleaning it up a few minutes ago. It is definitely for the RUGER old army, which is a black powder revolver now discontinued.

I searched my books and googled it but could not come up with anything. I guess a typo it is but it sure had me going, I looked and searched but nothing. I guess I will have to cast it to see what a Luger I mean Ruger old Army Boolit looks like.

I guess I was searching for the wrong thing, I should of googled the mold number and not what Lee called it on the box. Now I see the light after googling the mold number.

Hang onto that box, even some 1 cent postage stamps increase in value when they become rare.

a1albert, my mould throws a bullet at .450 on the base band, and .456 at the top band. The reason for the taper is easier seating in the cylinder mouth of the blackpowder revolver. I suspect yours will cast similar. I doubt it will be much use for a traditional .45 colt, but it might work ok if it's all you have.

Otherwise, that mould is also recently discontinued and I think you could sell it on this board pretty easily once you are a member for 30 days (or whatever the requirements are to sell, can't remember exactly).

Wher did you see it was discontinued? Lee still lists it on their site. Thanks, Billy

Maybe it's a bullet mold for the old .45acp 'test Luger'...which is a multi million dollar gun if you got one!

The Ruger Old Army is discontinued, not Lee's mold.
