Range Day

[Chihuahua Floyd]

Made it down to Moss Knob firing range today.
First the 30-06, Ruger M77 Mk II
175g, CG, lubed with LLA, sized to .309
10.5g, 11.0g, 11.5g, and 12.0g or Red Dot
also 25.0g or IMR 4227
Mixed headstamp brass
Shot at 25 yards as the 50 yard target stand is down and I did not know if I would be on paper at 100.
All four loads with Red Dot shot one hole groups approx 3 1/2" low and a little right. No indications of keyholing, but may not have been far enough for that. No noticable difference in recoil. No visible leading after 30 or so shots.
I'l load up more and try a different range with a 50 yard target stand next time.

35 Rem, 336 with Williams Peep sight.
158g LSWC, lubed LLA and sized .358 (38/357 bullet)
8.5g Red Dot
mixed brass.
About a two inch group for 9 shots, approx 3" low. Still learning to use peep sight.
Pussycat of a load to shoot, hardly feel any recoil.

45ACP
200g LSWC, 5.0g Red Dot
couple of FTF, smokestack jams when shooting with just the off hand. All over target, centered pretty well. Just trying gun out really, it's borrowed.

Also shot the little 45 ACP Glock with Winchester white box ammo and let a couple of others shoot the 1911 and Ruger Super Single Six.

All in all a good day.

Soundes like a nice day at the range. I was hoping to get out today as well but the weather was so uninviting that I didn't go. Oh well winter does get in the way of shooting now that I am older and smarter (I hope). I have used Red Dot for years in a 30-06 and one of my favorite loads was 13 gr with a 165 gr Lyman GC bulllet. This load always printed into around an inch im my Sako rifle.

Does 175g CG mean Gas Checked or something else? So far, I've found Ed Harris' "The Load" to be accurate in everything I've tried that it is suitable for.

Yes, it should have been 175g GC, some days I shoot better than I type.
