I went down to shoot some. My revolver was hitting low at 100 yards, maybe the cold? I sighted it with my 317 gr, two shots and adjust the Ultra Dot, then two more. I wound up a little high, left it and shot one at 50 to see where it hit.
I shot two at 100 with my WFN 378 gr PB and they hit exactly the same place, shots 1" apart.
I came down One click and shot one at 50. If I had not come down the click, both would have been in the same hole! First time I shot both together to compare them and I can't believe they hit the same place.
I said OK, one more shot. I found a rock about 1-1/2" square, set it at 100 to find I could not see it so I propped a paper plate behind it.
I stuck in one 378 gr and got a huge dust cloud, packed up and went up to the house.
I am about 2-5/8" high at 50, seems to be a little higher then in the summer. It's OK, almost all of my shooting is at 100 anyway until deer season, then I will adjust again.
The other holes in the target were the first three shots my friend took with his new 45-70 sighting in the open sights. Same 378 gr PB and it only took the three to get in center. He then blew up a water bottle at 100.

Not so crazy. What you see is a mirror of what a 300 vs 350 grn does at 50 and 100. They are different by .6" at 50 yards. What is the difference from the bench and offhand? Now that can get crazy.

I have needed a different sight setting most always when changing a boolit. These boolits are so different from each other it makes no sense to me.
One is a WLNGC, the other is a WFN PB and is heavier.
I have had many changes with boolits hitting the same elevation but most will have a different windage setting. Some will be 6" one side to the other.

If you have any pet loads in the 405g boolit range i'd love to hear them. Just bought a bfr in 10 in 45 70. I have unique and imr 4064. Or recommend a mold I really should have. I appreciate any info you have.

The revolver LOVES SR 4759. I had zero luck with Unique and 4064 is too slow.
A 405 gr boolit would use about 29 gr with a LP mag primer. I use Fed 155 primers in mine.
I use 30 gr with the 378 gr boolit and 28.5 with a 420 gr.
Size boolits to .459"
The gun will shoot anything from 300 to 448 gr boolits for me so far, I have not gone heavier yet. No need to.

44man, out of curiosity how many different boolits have you tried in your 45-70 BFR? I notice you stick with a 317 and 378gr because they are more than likely the most accurate. A friend of mine is interested in a BFR but DOES NOT care for the recoil in mine and I remember you saying the recoil was pretty light in the 45-70.
