Has anyone ever tried JB bore cleaner or polish as a bullet lube to help smooth the throat/ barrel? What are your thoughts upon trying this?

...............I'd think it could be beneficial if someone had a barrel that was especially hard to clean or was easily fouled. The old adage of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" comes to mind otherwise.

I use it on my 22/250 to remove copper fouling. I seriously doubt that it's abrasive enough to do any smoothing or polishing.

A buddy of mine swears by it for his final firelapping rounds.

Veral Smith advocated JB to smooth revolver thread constrictions, way back in the early to mid '80s. I think I've got the article in the IHMSA book titled Shooting Steel.
Never tried JB, though I firelapped one revolver with 320(?) grit silicon carbide in grease followed by Flitz. It removed the restriction and the barrel cleans much easier. That said, the grit ended up places I didn't want it. Cleaning after every shot made for a very time consuming process.
As said, if it ain't broke...

Keepin this short, Jb compound is great for smoothing out a rough bore. But oh my is it a lot of work. Fire lapping is a lot more fun, with hardly any work.
