Had a discussion at the gunshop a couple of days ago about how to pronounce the name. It ran the entire gamut with "mohseen" (long O) nagant (both As short and the G as in gag) being the most prefered way. I did a cursory search on the internet but couldn't find much in the way of pronunciation clarification.

According to the site "7.62x54r.net" it's MO-seen Nah-GON.

I hear people syaing that all the time here in US. Back home it's just moseen nagan, that's how Russians say it, maybe somewhere else its Nah-GON, France maybe?

Mosin (Мосин) being a Russian name is Moe-zeen and the French pronounciation of the Belgian Nagant has a silent T, Na-gone. In Russia/USSR Nagant didn't get to much credit and it is known as the Mosin rifle (Винтовка Мосина)

I read long ago that more Russians speak French as a first language than any other. So its not unlikely that French pronunciation of non Russian words or names would be very common in Russia.

Three Line Rifle. What's so hard about that?

Most likely it is pronounced "incorrectly". If for no other reason, most would be using an American accent.

haven't heard a russian pronounce it, but the russian language has the accent on the end of most words, while the english words, usually accent the front of the word. russians speak english while they are learning, accenting the end of the word.

I used to see it spelled Moisan Nagant. Not so much anymore. This is the first time I've been 'educated' on the pronunciation. Ummm .... how do we pronounce Paris? I tend to pronounce it in English.
