I recived a 54 cal muzzle loader mold in a package deal , it appears to be anodized aluminum , it is single cavity it has a removable pin that looks like it could be replaced with a hollowpointing pin .the mold is marked the #121 on both halves and 54 cal on one half . here are a couple pics

It is a Thompson Center Maxi Hunter mold. They are relatively rare but I find them to be accurate and hard hitting.

I have a .54 that looks just like it except the nose is blunter. Sprue plate and the hollow point pin set up are identical. And I don't have a clue who made it.

The hollow pointing pin doesn't look like it penetrates the nose of the bullet very far. It may be just the angle at which the photo was taken. BC

The nose on the Maxi-hunter is really just an inverted bump.

Did it by chance come with a Thompson Center Renegade ML in .54 Caliber?

That Renegade has a twist rate that shoots those Minié style hollow base boolits VERY well. I happen to use the Ideal 533476 Minié style mould at 410 grains and the results on target are impressive. Use enough 2 or 3 ffg powder and the results on Both ends are impressive.

No renegade but it was in the deal with a .54 cal Lee REAL mold , between that and the Lyman 53376 I already own I should be able to keep my T/C .54 hawkens fed

I was looking at the REAL as my new hunting boolit , but that TC mold might be worth a try , I believe the Hawkens and the renegade share the same 1in 48 twist so If the TC boolit does well in the renegade it should do well in the hawkens

C1PNR the minnie is impressive , I have shot it over 120 gr of 2f , that is stout , I took a deer at about 120 yards with one over 80 gr of 2f and it blew through the spine and carried on to parts unknown

thanks stubshaft for the quick ID on the mold
