View Full Version : Modified 311291
I had Buckshot HP my 311291. One of the things I want to do
is experiment with the bullet with a flat meplat on the end of the nose.
For those who subscribe to the concept that the large flat meplat improves
the killer power of a bullet, I'm in your camp as I believe that also.

Nice, it kinda looks like a 311041 now.
Similar, but I think it has a much wider meplat.

Ben,
How well does the wider meplat cycle through your bolt guns? Would a push feed work as well as a controlled round feed with these?
Thanks and regards,
Tony

I've got a pair of Ruger # 1's . One is chambered in 308 Win. and the other is a 30- 06 along with a Tikka , 30-06 ( mag. is a single stack, it will feed chap stick ) So feeding for far isn't an issue.
Would a push feed work as well as a controlled round feed with these?
I have no idea, I have not done that type of comparison.

Ben,
Thanks. I've been thinking about buying or having a .30-06 built. I like the thump potential of a wide meplat but have wondered if I'd experience feeding problems. I may be over thinking this.
Regards,
Tony
No I don't think you're over thinking it at all. I've had some rifles that wouldn't feed a spitzer reliably. So, your concern is a valid one.

What does it weigh now? Is the other end a HP pin? I'm still trying to figure out if the flat or HP thumps harder or kills deader.
Of course, I'm still trying to quantify the difference between the two.:veryconfu
Weighs 177.3 grains now with the wide meplat on the front like you see in the photos above.

I thought the 311291 dropped a 170gr boolit?
One thing about my mold that may be different than others is mine throws a bullet that is a tad over .314 " in dia. Most likely that is the difference in the weigh .
if the mold was throwing .311 or .3115 " they would weigh less.

I see... I'm using the same mold to make boolits for my .30-30.
