Hard to tell, looks like the bottom fell out.

From 0.9711$ to 0.6671$ overnight; Yikes!

My advice, Don't Sell!

Remember, you still have the same number of shares or in this case, POUNDS.

I bet the Italians are already marketing the Lead Ballast from the Costa Concordia cruise ship! That should really change the suppy and demand curve. Just kidding of course, but it is clearly an influx of lead or a reduced demand. More likely a new source.

Definitely agree. It is a gift and a sign from the galena gods. Great time to stock up with all you can afford if you can get to it before the prices jump up again.

For those of us just getting our molds warm for the first time, how does one take advantage of this? I suspect the junk yard isn't going to drop prices based on commodity rates (or will they?)

For those who are selling it sucks for us buying its heaven sent. reckon it all depends on whose ox is getting gored.

if you're buying a few tons,on the spot market this will matter.
if the price goes down and stays there for a while you wil see the price of lead based commodities come down too.
lets all hope it comes down to the 40-50 cents range and stays there for a while.
this will make it easier for US to get the alloy we need to continue our hobby.

Copper has gotten real expensive lately. By the was people are stealing it, it is almost considered "precious" and by the time it is turned into jackets, it is real precious.

Where should I be looking to buy lead to take advantage of this drop in price?

Well, so much for that big drop in price. At the moment, it is actually showing an increase back up to over .99/lb.

I wonder if it was just a glitch in the reporting system at Kitco.

aarolar - right here on CB you will find some of the best prices around. There are a few that sell it already in ingots for $1/lb shipped. There are a number of threads talking about places to get lead. The search function can be a great help.

runfive is correct. If your buying many tons this would save you a bunch. For us the price will have to stay quite low for quite a while. If the source stays low then eventually the scrap market will relect that but don't expect your local scrap yard to cut his prices in half tomorrow.

I vote for the Glitch Theory. Pretty rare to drop 40 to 50% in one day and then pop back up the same day.

I bought some today at a local scrap yard today at .50 cents a pound. Also stopped by a metal roofing company and I think I got hooked up on free lead roofing flanges.

The Fed printing money again appears to be sending lead prices higher.

+1 what Oreo said. Fed and Euro causing market upsets.

Wen I buy alloy the price is based on a two month average. No day trading at the dock for us consumers.

It gets me upset when some guys post they buy at a scrap yard !! ALL the local scrap yards here in Nashville refuse to sell their lead. It really is unfair !! Am I in the wrong place ?

Had to vent, sorry.

We have a local scrap yard which is owned by a large corporation based in New Jersey which will not sell me lead or any car parts for that matter. There is a small locally owned recycling center that will sell WW and other lead. They don’t do big steel car crushing work. Just beer cans aluminum siding and screen doors along with a wheel weight or two.

You might try looking for a small operation like that over a corporate owned yard.
