Anybody know if the guy is still selling dies and reamers?

I found some references to a email address from about 5 years back, but thats about it.

Would be looking at doing what many others had though about, and chambering a barrel to be implanted into a '94. With about a 24" barrel and using 90-110g boolits.

They make some fantastic claims about the cartridge that I find unbelievable. I tried contacting them about a year or so ago and never got any response.

On a similar cartridge, we came up with a little cartridge based on the 38 Special necked down to 30 caliber. After doing some research on the Reece and others I decided to go with my version for economy and knowing what I had planned for the cartridge. Other members of the board named it the 30 Badger. Dave Manson made the chamber reamer. Forming the case is very simple with commercially (and inexpensive) dies. A 310 Cadet, a Starr mini roller, and several H&R have been converted to the cartridge. I also just completed an 10" pistol barrel for my Contender. My reasoning for the cartridge was to give a CHEAP cartridge to make and shoot. As wildcats go it was very cheap to get going. basically one can use 32-20 data for loading. One of the original goals was to make a quiet subsonic cartridge which it definitely achieved as well as a nice little game getter and plinker.

When I can afford a lever action for a donor, I intend on building a lever gun in 30 Badger. It just seems like the thing to do.

Go to Speciality Pistols, several of the guys there are shooting the 30 Reece and have his contact info.

Badger thats quite interesting, what did you use to form the brass?

I've thought about doing something similar and just sizing 38spl brass with a 30Tok sizer and using it to load. And just using a reamer for the Tok. But because of the differences in diameter of brass towards the case head I never tried it. I figured the 38spl brass would swell and rupture at the casehead. Of course if you had a custom reamer cut then that would solve that issue. And I guess you could always have a sizer die cut and then just use Tok expanding and seater dies. Could be interesting I suppose.

Leadman, I looked over there. But it requires registering, and I'm not going to register on yet another forum that I have no interest in, only to obtain a phone number.

We used a 30 Mauser or 7.62x25 die to form it and load it. By keeping the fully formed case one gets a neck at about .310 long (good for cast boolits) and a OAL of 1.165" When one needs to body size, one added step of using a 38/357 sizer die and you're good to go. We had Dave Manson make a reamer with the dimensions of the 38 Special body (thus supporting the case near the bottom) with the 30 Mauser shoulder angle and placement. Our goal was to come up with something cheap to shoot, easy to get brass for, versatile. cheap to get dies for, and easy to find acceptable data for. Since case capacity is 1 grain less than the 32-20 load data is a no brainer for 100 grain boolits and a few others. I have a PDF file of the reamer if you'd like a copy...just PM me your email address and I'll get it off to you. BTW although we haven't had a chance to get loads chronograph-ed, I'd bet we are very near 1800 FPS with a 120 grain gas checked boolit designed by BABore.

One fun load for quiet shooting is 1.8 grains of Bullseye behind a 145 grain plain base boolit. I compute it at less than a nickel a shell. Pretty cheap, hey?

Edd

P.S. A couple of us have thought strongly of getting the same reamer made but adding some length to the body to utilize 357 Mag brass. I'd expect one could get a bit more velocity out of the 30 Badger Magnum (hehehehe).

Sounds like great minds think alike, as that is pretty dang close to what I was talking about. ;)

One other thing out of curiosity. Did you purchase both a rougher and a finisher when you did your's or did you just go with a finisher?

Just a finish reamer.

Sweet, I look forward to playing around with it. Although I'll probably be sticking with lighter weights than you guys. I'm looking for something in the 90-110g like mentioned. However flexibility is always nice.

Here are some formed cases from the early development of the final cartridge.

I'm still trying to find some of the other pictures I took of it.

Unfortunately, my good camera died so I am adding this picture (although a bit fuzzy) to give you some perspective on the cartridge.

From the left, cartridge on the left is a 223, 30 Badger Rimless, 38 Special case formed 30 Badger, loaded shell with a 145 LFN type boolit and lastly a light modified 311291 PB loaded. Its about 135 grains. The last one or the one on the right is a 32-20 for comparison.

Below the cases if a row of examples of boolits I've tried in this cartridge. They range in weight from 77 grains on the left to 150 for the 2 on the right.

Sorry I can't get a cleaner picture but that gives one and idea of what I'm talking about.

That is a great idea. One more to fit in the 32 category. Anyone try this in a revolver yet? This would be great in a rook rifle also.

No one has tried it in a revolver to my knowledge but as you see in post #2 we've tried it in several different "rook" type rifles plus 2 10" barreled T/C Contenders. [smilie=l:

I seriously doubt that it will be of any use in a revolver due to the shoulder.

After shooting the 30 Badger in a modified/sleeved H&R Topper I would be more than willing to try it in a revolver for the lighter loads. I think a 30 caliber barrel chunk and a reamed DanWesson 22 cylinder might work to convert my 357 model 15, but I have not done the math on it yet.

Just started shooting my .30 Badger in a 10 inch barreled Contender. I can tell you that it's more fun than one should be allowed to have with a single shot pistol. Thanks Edd!

Gonna try AA#5 with a 100 grn RFPB next.

Now I just gotta get the time to load more up!:bigsmyl2:

Years ago in a gun mag a guy used a case called the 30 Streaker. Also Gary Reeder makes a 30cal but IIRC it is like a shortened 30 Herret. He chambers this in a revolver.
I had a 356GNR which is another Reeder cartridge, 41mag necked to 357. Had him rechamber my 9mm Blackhawk cylinder. Had a sharp shoulder with a short neck, no problems with setback.

Here is Carson Reece e-mail: reececustoms@earthlink.net.
MGM chambers barrels for this cartridge.

The .32 Miller Short would make things a lil easier, although with a heavier bullet.
You could maybe use the load data if using heavier bullets though.
I'll look forward to more pics and especially targets.

Carson Reece lives in Lebanon, Missouri. I purchased a set of dies and 200 brass from him a couple of years ago in the hopes I could get Mike Siros of OTT LLC to make me a barrel.

Unfortunately, Mike isn't taking any new business. Not sure if he ever will. I have never purchased a barrel from MGM and they are the only ones chambering this cartridge.

If you want I can provide you with Carson's phone number?

The next logical step up is of course the 30X357 Max.

Of Course I think Jim Rock Has that one covered.

Seems to be the next step up from 32-20 . . .

IF that step is even needed.

I know this is an old thread but in case someone still is in need.

Carson Reece is still alive and kicking, spoke to him on the phone this morning. He still has dies but has been waiting on brass from Hornady for a year and a half. The dies are 53.50 that includes shipping. His address is:
