I need to make a repo bayonet out of 5/16" rod.
Can some one give me the measurements from the tip to the cuts that hold the piece retraced and extended?

Isn't that the 1888 ramsod bayonet rifle?

Check with S&S firearms..they may have one original or repro

If you're asking about a Trapdoor rod bayo I can attempt to give some measurements- but they are a little detailed. I think the model was called the 1888 but the block will be dated 1884.

The rod is basically two diameter. The bottom (base) is threaded and the top is knurled with a short three-sided point.
Total length- 35.5"

Beginning at threaded bottom end
Bottom end- .185" dia
Slow taper for about 12.5" to- .250" dia
Rapid taper for 2" to- .320" dia
Maintains .320" all the way to the top (point)

Each set of two locking rebates turned into the rod are on 1 15/16" centers with each turned rebate .225" long and about .035" deep.

Measuring from bottom-- the rebates are located:
The center of the first (extended position) rebate is 16 8/16" from the bottom and the second is 18 7/16" from the bottom.
The center of the top (retracted position) rebate is 32" from the bottom and the second is 33 15/16" from the bottom.

Hope you were asking about the Trapdoor rod bayo- kind of a pain to measure and translate :)

They work great for stabbing snakes at a safe distance.

Been told that an 1884 model with the ramrod bayonet feature can be worth easily in the $2K and more.Robert
