Received 31-201L (today) I noticed this (see pic) What is up with that? I bought this mold due to quality control. The mold re-sell value is at least 50% decreased. I e-mailed Tom soon as i noticed it today ( just got it) I am sure Tom will do me right. I am a bit upset after spending $120 for the mold. NOTICE EXTRA HOLE !!!!!!

You just answered your own question. That's probably why it went to the 50% bin

If you look closely you will see a hex-head jamb screw at the bottom of that "hole" ! It is there to provide a stop for the spru plate stud screw ! Some makers use a set screw on the side of the mold or provide none at all . Tom's system is infinitely better, does not damage the threads of the hold down screw, and is a GREAT design improvement !

Stick a hex key down the hole and turn !

Others beat me to it- the one I received Tuesday had the same hole. It would make life tough if you ever had to access/install that hex screw without it... Looks like yours is as pretty as mine- the man does good work.

Calm down, Shooter6, that hole you see is the result of one of the best designs ever done to a mould sprue plate screw! It has thrown people before, don't feel like the Lone Ranger, but you did kinda go off half-cocked, you gotta study it first!

I can't believe that the OP didn't check into that hole/setscrew.....Tom is a craftsman of the best kind, and a good guy, he wouldn't mess you around.

Yeah, that threw me for a second too. I knew that it had to be there for a reason though. I looked in the hole and realized instantly what I was looking at. I just wonder why nobody ever thought of this before! Tom is a pretty smart feller!

Just got my mold today, and saw that too; I have to agree that is one of the nicest design improvements I've seen in a while. Oh, and really beautiful molds, too.
