A pause for the COZ

I have been tinkering with my 30-30's all year.

I had been using Unique for my cast plinking load. And still will.
But I was curious what results I could get using universal.
I am not sure if universal gives a real advantage. Actually they are about the same performance wise. BUT!!!
it does meter out of my LEE auto disk very very well. That is an advantage. Unique is a dipper only powder on my bench.

I did find for my guns. the universal grouped a little better in the 30-30's I have a Savage 340 bolt and a Marlin 336.
I tried it in my .357 mag Rossi M92 lever gun and it grouped worse.
Go figure. cant have every thing.

Any way its
Lyman 170 gr FP's no GC .310
8.7 gr Universal / .95 LEE disk.

Pretty good I think. not counting the fouling shot.

I use 8.2gr Universal under a 115gr 311008 in my W94 Buffalo Bill as a chicken load for silhouette. Very accurate and has the recoil of a .22 in that rifle - all you need for 50 yard chickens, and even 100 yard pigs, though they fall a little too slow for my liking...

The usual disclaimers about using this load - double charges are hard to notice with so little powder in a 30-30 case. I highly recommend the case never leaves the hand between dropping the charge and seating the boolit.

Marlin 336 chambered in 30-30 Winchester with 150 gr lee flat round nose bullet with a gas check from Hornady sized to .310" lube with 1/3 bees wax 1/3 candle wax and 1/3 Vaseline, winchester primers, 8.4 gr green dot powder.

low recoil and heck of a load we shoot it out 200 yards some times but at a 100 yards it can't be knocked.

we tried the unique and universal and we keep going back to the green dot
