If a lube works fine at 80F, can it fail due to a viscosity change with a big temp. Fluctuation.

It won't fail per we but may not give the same level of accuracy.

Example- I get good accuracy from shot 1 in my Marlin 32-20 with carnuba red at temps over 60 degrees. Same load at 30 degrees may require 5 or so shots to warm the barrel to give the same accuracy.

Once the barrel is warm all is the same. Let the barrel cool back down and it needs a few shots to group well again. Cold barrel shots may be off by 3 inches at 50 yards.

This is not a problem for range work it does make me want a different lube for cold weather hunting. I think this cold weather lube issue is why 357 Maximum developed MML which does not give me cold barrel cold weather issues at all. Seems ok in my 90 degree plus summers so far too.

it's the difference between shoveling new snow and slush.
