New from mossberg
I saw this on another forum and found it interesting and humorous. I guess they will slap a picatinny rail and collapsable stock on anything these days.

Somehow it wouldn't surprise me to see that done....what an abomination.

Horrible, and down right disrespectful to the classic lever gun.

Best wishes,

Joe

Anyone seen a MSRP on it?

I like it.
(Yes, I even publicly admit it. ;-0 )

A practical fighting lever is an interest I've had for a while.

The Combat Lever action (http://www.opensourcesurvival.com/?p=510)
Night Scout at leverguns.com (http://www.levergunscommunity.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=31062)
The Tactical 30-30 Lever Action Rifle (www.warriortalk.com/showthread.php?649-The-Tactical-30-30-Lever-Action-Rifle)

Except for the collapsable stock... never did see a point to those dumb things. Put a normal stock on it and I'll take it, maybe one with ammo storage like that one from down under...

Yep. I pinned on June 2010.

How do those people at Mossberg think you could get a decent cheek weld with that stock jacked down like that?

Its not about correct shooting technique, its about running and gunning and doing drills so that they are prepared. Not sure why they are running drills or what kind of drills or what they are preparing for but by golly they are doing it.:2gunsfiring_v1:

The guys that buys this have a different strategy, they plan to get the bad guys to laughing so hard, they won't notice them sneek away.

To me it looks like a marketing decision. Someone in Marketing thought Mossberg could sell more of their lever actions if they put an AR stock on them. Maybe if a person has a youngster that needed a deer rifle, this is a solution to a growing child.

you'd think they would do it in a short pistol cartridge just so they could tout the high capacity too.

10-4! Me too. That thing is Nasty! Kinda remindes me of that Johnny Cash "One piece at a time" song. ...it was a 51, 52, 53...automobile...er uh, gun!

Well, if they made it in .45 Colt, it would be the perfect companion piece for the Taurus Judge.

I'm betting they sell, and if they don't sell, we have an instant collector's item.

I am basing my hunch on the fact that I have been wrong on most every firearm that has come out in the last few years.

That has got to be the ugliest factory rifle that I've ever seen.

Gotta admit it is ugly but I have a regular 464 bought as a truck rifle not expecting much. I got a lot more than I paid for. It is a sweet shooter with CB's. Pill bottle caps at 100 paces with regularity even with my old eyes.

If it had a folding buttstock it could almost be a tactical mares leg. That would actually make it uglier, which is no small feat.
I understand the concept, I just don't get the why? This is a solution looking for a problem.

They will have to put a bayonet lug on it before I buy one.

I first saw this referenced on SurvivalBlog.com.

It is a functional gun. Someone will buy that gun. It's going to make it harder to pass ridiculous "assault weapon" laws unless they come out and say, 'Black scares us!' And that sounds racist."

An interesting idea.

I saw this gun at the show and I had to chuckle. However Mossberg's new mode of design is "Modular".

They had a table setup with all kinds of piece parts laying there.

You could configure any Mossberg shotgun about 10 different ways with no tools , everything just snaps on and off. It was pretty cool actually, and they had the best flashlight integrated into a foreend of any one I saw at the show, and is something I want for my M500 for a house gun..

Alot of those parts go onto the levergun as well.

It may offend some but it is a way for them to increase their customer base and really it doesn't hurt anything. It just gives the consumer more choices.

One thing I know about customers is that if you make something, people always seem to want something just slightly different. Mossberg's modularity strategy covers more ground, and thus attracts more buyers... Good business!

Their response to the Ruger Gunsite Carbine is a bolt action .223 carbine that uses AR mags. It was nicely made (not exceptional mind you) but worthy of the price they are asking. I'm sure they will sell many of them. Ruger chose not to go into this market.

I thought this was a humor thread, if so the folks at the Mossberg site are in on it. Un......believable.

Scifijim: We listened to Rawls' book on tape on the way to and from the show.

It is pretty informative, and has a serious amount of info in one spot. Basically 6 full hours of information.

I was so impressed,,,, I bought the book off Ebay as soon as I got home!

"How to survive the End of the World as we know it"

I see it as a "must have" reference volumn, and for $10 you can't hardly beat it.

He uses the term "When the Schummer hits the fan" frequently. Sounds like he is not a big fan of Chuck Schummer.

I like their idea of a Bolt action 223 using AR Mags. I'd prefer a 1-8 or 1-7 twist barrel to handle heavier bullets (69-77gr) for long range prone matches/deer hunting.

The current bolt rifle is setup with a 1-9 which will handle 50-62gr bullets well out to 300 yards though.

+1 with Bruce... I own an ar-15, but more as a memory of my service. I don't care to have that lever gun. And won't ever buy one.

Just looking at it, tell me I don't need to handle it to decide if it will fit my use for a rifle.

I'm usually one to give anything a chance, but I cannot get past the look of it.

I get the idea that they want to capture the younger market, but why do they figure this is the way? I cannot see too many 20 something hunters buying one.

The appeal? It's like wanting to date the fat chick's ugly friend.

Maybe I just like pushing people's buttons. It would be fun at the range. The old guys would look look offended and think that you had lost your mind. The young tacticool set would wonder what the new toy was until they realized it was a lever gun, then they would look offended and think that you had lost your mind.
Hmm. if I find a good deal on one I may just pick it up.

Yep, planning on picking one up on the cheap in a few years. A set of Boyd gunstocks, some good sights and a sling and I'll be good to go. I'll have a few pounds of useless steel to trade for lead after the transition as well.

Wow, my idea of a battle rifle is the FN FAL C1. The whole black rifle trend does not appeal to me in any way. Why not spray paint a beat up lever flat black and bob the barrel.

It does strike me like a tough guys gun. You have to be tough to take the abuse at the range when you unveiled your new toy!!!
