A retired plumber gave me some bars that are 13" long by 3/4" wide. They are marked National Lead Co with the number 111. I want to use it hoping it is 50-50 bar solder to mix with my pure stuff to come out with 30 to1. But it may be pure lead; the plumber doesn't remember. Any help on what the 111 signifies? Thanks!

lay them across two bricks and whack them with a hammer. Id guess that if there solder they will crack in half and if there pure they will just bend.

I asked this same question about the same bars in a previous thread and was told it was 50/50 bar solder.

armexman- Was in the 3rd Armored Cav, Second Sqadron from 1966 to 1969. Started as a platoon leader and left as the S3. Vietnam was hot but we were in Germany and then sent to Fort Lewis, Wahington and trained for riot control due to the race riots. Also for Reforger back to Germany. Our old outfit has been to Iraq 3 times. The last time they had 90 Troopers get hit in An Bar province; a very nasty place. Brave Rifles!

Waltp, where were you stationed in Germany? I was there also in 1966-68. I was in Bamberg during that period which was mainly armored Cav. I was in combat engineers.

bigborefan-I don't want to turn this into a military nostalgia board. The moderator may not approve. But anyway, we were stationed in K-Town, AKA Kaiserslautern. Bamberg was the home of the 2nd Cav. Crazy times, we were so short of spare parts that most of our tanks and scout vehicles were redlined. We could not leave the motor pool. Everything went to Vietnam.
