My local gunshop has a H&R 44 caliber single shot rifle. I never heard of this one before. Does anyone know anything about this gun? I appears to be a shotgun as it doesn't have rifling. If it is a shotgun, is their anyplace to buy ammo? If not, what can be used to make ammo? thanks for any help.

H&R makes a 44 mag barrel rifling is very feint but is present

it is a very desirable firearm.

good shape value around $200 with out seeing it
it should be on an SB1 frame
check out greybeard .com for more info in their handi rifle section

If it has a ramrod underneath, then it is one of the "Shikari" rifles. Hard to come by and wanted by many.

It doesn't have a ramrod underneath, (it would be cool if it did).

After doing a little research on the web, I saw some pics identical to the gun the store has. I believe it is a shotgun in the extincted 44 caliber. I now need to find out what brass can be fire formed if I decide I can't live without it.

Sounds like a 44XL. I have a couple of the factory loads.
