Two casting sessions under my belt and I'm ready to move beyond this Lee 2-cav mold to something better.

Based upon the comments here I think I want a brass mold from Accurate. This will be for .45acp bullets for my 1911. I've been shooting 230gr hardball all my life and so I want to stick with that. As I look at the accurate catalog, both the 45-230B and 45-230M appear to be reasonable. Can anyone tell me why I would pick one over the other?

I can't say which would be better, it probably doesn't make any difference. The only difference I see between them is that the 230B has the small shoulder at the bottom of the ogive, while the 230M doesn't. The 230B will probably cut a nicer hole in paper, if that is important to you. The only thing I'm casting right now for my 4 Kimbers is the 200 gr. SWC Lyman, and it works just fine at the proper seating depth. I'm sure either of those two designs would shoot just about the same at any normal 1911 pistol distance.

I'm looking into those myself and the only reason I'd choose the 43-230M over the other is the larger grease groove. According to Tom, quote: " The #45-230M is .64” long. The nose is .34”, so with a .898” case, absolute minimum COL is 1.238”. It's a pretty good replacement for the standard 230 gr FMJ and you won't beat his molds. Equal maybe but not surpass, IMO.

I have an Accurate Molds 230L in brass. It feeds with no problems in my Springfield GI and is more accurate then me. I picked this mold after hearing about it here from Geargnasher and I am very happy with it.

Shoot Tom an email and ask your questions and let him know what you are going to use the boolit for and what you need and he will help you out. He is great to work with.
