what would be a good powder for the .30 carbine with a 135 grain cast bullet with a gas check?

Accurate 1680 works good for me with 125 grain plain base hard cast bullet.

WC-820 was the powder used in the military loading. That powder is found on the surplus market at fairly attractive prices. It also works good in 357 Mag and 44 Mag.

I would highly recommend you take a look at WC-820.

4227 worked very well up to 1600 fps with the Lyman 311410 (128 gr).

Depends on the gun that is firing it. If it is for a M-1 carbine w296/h110 or WC820 is good.

If you are firing it out of a Blackhawk revolver you can use Unique and other similar powders to reduce the noise.

I got good results with the 130 gr SAECO gc @ 14.0 gr 296. It chronoed at 1800 fps.

I gotta vote for 296, I have used 2400 but to me 296 burns cleaner and meters more accurately.

H110 was developed for military loading in the M1 carbine.
H110/296 are my choices....dale

what kind of seating depth do I need? Like the jacket bullets or seat deeper? This is for a T/C Contender.

I've been using H-110 in my .30 carbine loads but have also used 2400. The H-110 was a little more accurate out of my revolver. FB

For your Contender, Seat them out to touch the rifling, then try .010/.015 more.

Thanks, I was wondering if it is the same as a jacket and it looks the same, I haven't gotten real good accuracy from them, but, I could be using the wrong powder or the wrong charge. I haven't played with either much, just what I had read in one of the books and I believe it is the Lyman 48th edition.

Ive tried 2400 , 296/H110 , 1680 but seltteld on surplus WW 820 as it gave excellent accuracy and was orgional developed for the 30 m1 carbine and at very attractive prices compaired to new powders.

About 9.5 - 9.9grs of Alliant 2400 would give you good service.

[Throw them out! Every last one of them!]

I am for that as well. That will be a change they can believe in!
