Just a little testimony to the potential of these fine old 03a3s. Shot mine today in a 1,000 yard match, fired prone with a ammo box rest, wasn't going to try boolits for this match. It's a like new 1944 barrel, new CMP C stock, Leopold 6X fixed, Hornady Amax 178s. Got a 349 of 400 with 7X. The X ring is 10". I was very surprised and pleased as punch. It's been a project in the works for a while, next up is the NOE 311299, hopefully on 500m rams.

What load did you use in your jacketed cartridges?

IMR 4350, just under a max load for an est. 2700 fps. I used the ballistic calculator on Hornady's website to sight in, 37.8 inches high at 100 yds. ! To my surprise I was on the paper for the first shot at 1,000. It's a good thing because I had the match description wrong and only brought enough ammo to shoot two sighters. I think I'll keep this gun. It has a perfect 2 groove barrel and will be mostly a cb gun. The 6X is because I can use it in CBA matches as "modified scope" class which limit military rifle class to 6X.

Congratulations on your rifle and great shoot.

It will be fun to see your results with cast bullets. Keep posting please.

Are you going to try 1,000 yards with a boolit?

Are you going to try 1,000 yards with a boolit?

I doubt it, not with a 30-06 anyway. The Amax 178 has a BC of .495 and is going 2700 fps and is around 10 ft. high mid-range. With a boolit I think my scope would top out before it'd reach that far. I was happy to see the Loopy 6X FXII could get it up to 38" high at 100 yds. I have tried boolits on 500m rams in a military rifle silhouette match, they work. And thanks for the kudos, I was pretty pleased with myself and the gun/load. Wineman was there and shot his Swiss contraption using ball ammo, did pretty good too. You should see these freakin' F class guns, unbelieveable. They get 10s and x's and their scoring rings are smaller.
