I am looking into putting a scope on my CZ 550FS in 9.3x62mm but I'm looking for a straight tube scope. I am looking at two scopes one is a Weaver Classic V-Series 1-3x20mm. And the other is a Leupold VX-1 Shotgun Scope 1-4x20mm. There is only $30 pirce differance. The Leo has longer eye relief but the Weaver has a wider field of view. What is your thoughts on the scopes.:Fire:

I love C-Z rifles. Have several of them. The Set trigger is great!

For $30.00, I would go with the Leupold. However, I think the paralax is set for fifty yards on the shotgun scopes, you might want to check on that before spending the money.

I've had both, FWIW, I only have the Leupold now, the Weaver was a good scope, accurate, clear, light, and tough, and WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY too short eye relief for me. As far as the Leupold shotgun scope, have 3, one 1x4 and two 2x7's, they do just fine with paralax out to 200 yards, the rep from Leupold I contacted didn't expect any issues to 300, also they are set at 75 yards according to him.

Why not this one? It's about $70 more than the shotgun scope you're considering. But it's a better scope and the paralax will be set correctly:

+1 for the Leupold scope. I think the one Ickisrulz has referenced would be your better way to go. In my opinion, it is exactly the right scope for your rifle. Very nice looking rifle too. I like the full stock. I put Leupolds on my rifles and I have never been sorry. One of the best warrantys in the business and USA made. Hard to beat!

im a leupold man through and through. that said i have both an old varix2 (which is the same as the new vx1s) and a weaver 1x3. Like was said the leupold has it in eye relief but the weaver has better optics in low light by a good margin. Its been on a 16 inch tc carbine in 4570 and has put up with some pretty heavy recoil and is still holding up so its got to be put together pretty well.

If you can wait, consider a 3x Leupold. It has 4" of eye relief. It's straight-tubed (more accurately described as "no front objective bell"). The scope tube is longer, to nicely fit in a long action scope ring set up.

You can find them once in a while on the auction sites for ~$150-$225+. Great scope. I've got one, and I'm never selling it.

Don't overlook the older Weaver k2.5 or k3 steel tubed scopes. I know the later Weaver k2.5 steel tube scope came with "microtrac" adjustments. I had one, and it was great. Stupidly sold it with a rifle. Should have kept it.

There was also straight tubed Lyman All American Permacenter 2.5 or 2.75x ( have one), that is very nice. Redfield also made a 2.5 or 2.75x straight tube scope (have one of those too). Weaver recently made a run of aluminum straighty tube K2.5 with microtrac (have one of those too). This is a very bright and optically sharp scope-probably similar to the Weaver V1-3x. This may tick some people off, but my eyes tell me the new Weaver k2.5 is a sharper, clearer, brighter scope than the Leupold 3x.

I have the aluminum tubed Weaver k2.5x on a Marlin 1895 45-70. I haven't shot it a lot (200 rounds of 50 grain/3031 with 400 grain bullets- strong but not max @ ~1650 fps), and the scope is as good as new.

All are good. Very practical scopes.

The Leupold 1X4 is a great scope, and at low power enables you to shoot with both eyes open, giving you a super-wide field with the cross-hairs appearing to be just floating in the air, if you have a right master eye. I have a 9.3X62 CZ with just that set-up.

Leupold and never look back.

the 9.3 is a robust round. I believe you'll be pleased with the leupold's eye relief. FWIW the wider field of view isn't the advantage you would think. Leave both eyes open for running shots with the leupold set on 1X and you'll subconciously superimpose the reticle where it needs to be.

BTW I have a pair of 1-4X VXIIs on my own heavy kickers. I put my money where my mouth is.

As always YMMV

I always liked the looks of the strait tubed scopes on full stocked rifles. There's just something about them that set the rifle off. I like the older scopes, they have smaller knobs on them making them lookmore streamlined.

A older weaver 3x that has fine crosshairs & a target dot.
