My friend brought his .44 mag Desert eagle for me to play with. Does anyone have an accurate load for one. How does it handle cast boolits.

the gas system is not easy to clean....the mfg says no cast boolits....

I have one, but as Mike said I haven't used cast boolits due to the gas operated system. Mine shoots well with 240 jacketed pushed by 23 gr. H-110 and CCI 350.

Interestingly, the velocity in the D.E. is about about 100 fps. less with this load than when it is fired in a revolver.

Another amusing quirk....I'm a lefty and the brass hits me in the face about half of the time. I ocassionally find the ejected brass in my shirt pocket.

That helps, thanks. I can understand about the velocity because of the type of rifling. Not as much resistance on the bullet.

My buddy AL had a 50ae desert eagle and did alot of experimenting with cast in it. He said he could shoot over a 1000 bullets without any trouble or gas port cleaning if he used fairly hard lead and only used hard lube. He said most of the plugging and fouling came from the lube and as we all know hard lubes just stay on the bullet anyway.

You boys are going to get in trouble with the Feds talking about makin' dessert out of Eagles. Don't you fellers know that Eagles are protected? Gee Whiz, fellers, I would hate to see my friends end up in the Federal Pen for eating our National Bird...

I had a lot of trouble with the magazine. The last cartridge would not strip out right and would jam into the shroud. I fixed that. Then I loaded 240 XTP's with 24 gr's of 296, mounted a red dot and it shoots 2" groups at 50 yd's. It looks like the best it will do.
I wonder what a 300 gr will do?
