Looking for a few responses for the resulting diameter of your slugs.

For those of you who have the Lyman 356402 mold what diameter boolits are you getting? I have a 9mm Glisenti project and believe I need to cast somewhere around .360-.362 slugs and have plans for opening this mold up if necessary.

Thanks,

Dan Pb

Mine only cast WW to about .357 inch. I'm sure you will have to have it opened up in you need .360

Easier solution might be to get a mould for the 9mm Makarov like Lee's 365-95-1R to drop a proper size bullet for "as cast" or sizing down.

I have a Lee mold that cast 125gr to that size. It's the .38/357 design. I use it in 9mm sized much smaller. If you want to buy it let me know.

The 356402 is another one of Lyman's "changeable" moulds. The newer ones tend to run around .358" or less. The older Ideals run larger and one of my most used moulds is an old Ideal that runs over .361".

When you're looking, look for moulds that have a pronounced front driving band. On the newer versions, the driving band almost blends into the ogive and from my experiences, gives poorer accuracy than ones with the pronounced driving bands.?beagle

Miha has had a 380/9mm Mak mold that has gone around at least twice. You might look at the Group buy section and see if one is currently active. He will cut it at either size.

Thank you gentlemen, for the great suggestions. I considered having a mold made up for me in my required diameter but the Lyman mold seems to have the shape required for my Glisenti round.

I'll keep an eye out for that older mold, beagle. I appreciate the experience. Nice site here to ask a question and tap into such knowledge. Kind of like having 2,000 uncles who reload to ask, "What'd ya do that for?"

Be well,
Dan

I have two that cast .361" and two that cast .356". It's a crapshoot as to what diameter you get but the older Ideal moulds seem to be more generous in size than the Lymans./beagle
