Piedmont Triad, North Carolina -- and looking for a better place to shoot my Mosin Nagant than Windy Hill Trading Post in Elkin. Nice shop, decent range, but it's an hour each way, and everything I've found that's closer is members only or doesn't allow full power rifles.

The Cold mountain range south of Canton is open to the public. No caliber restrictions that I know of and you can shoot 100 yards or less.

Cold mountain, also known as Sunburst range.

Open from dawn to dusk, closed on Sunday's.

Make sure to bring your own targets and target stands, and clean up when you leave.

Last Fall someone killed a deer that was hanging around at the range it was out of season, and she had two fawns.
They caught the sob, and prosecuted him. :) Enough, responsible shooters turned him in.

I grew up in S.C., gun friendly place to be sure. My folks retired for good about ten years ago and moved back west and I kinda took to the midwest in a serious way, but it has a lot to recommend it as a place to live.
